Hi there!
We're Karl and Kate, a friendly, organised and thoughtful couple who are returning to NZ to live after four years abroad. We've house-sat dozens of times in the past, however we're new to the kiwihousesitters platform.
We both grew up in meticulously tidy households with pets of all shapes and sizes, and learned from an early age what it takes to keep a house in order, and our animal friends happy, healthy and thriving. We love owning pets, and when this hasn't been feasible due to work or travel plans, we've sought out opportunities to keep animals in our lives.
In 2018, we travelled, house-sat and cared for many cats and dogs abroad through the Workaway program. Recently, we fostered an energetic and high-needs rescue dog for 18 months in Canada, and with the support of a trainer, improved his behavior and our built our skill-set to care for dogs of all sizes, breeds and backgrounds.
We've been homeowners for many years, and landlords for some, so know how to take care of a property. We're nature lovers and avid gardeners, so if you have plants they'll certainly be in good hands!
Karl did an amazing job looking after our home and our cat Gareth for a weekend. He's conscientious and friendly, and he kept us in the loop with regular updates on how Gary was doing. When we arrived home, the house was spotless. Karl really went above and beyond, and we'd absolutely recommend him to anyone needing a sitter for their home and pets in future.
This was the second time Karl has house and pet-sat for us, and just like the first time, the whole experience was a real pleasure. Communication throughout was polite and professional, our cat Gareth was well taken care of, and the house was immaculate when we arrived home. I'm certain we'll keep inviting Karl to sit for us in future: we have absolutely no reason to change to anyone else. Thanks so much!
Karl looked after our house for two weeks over the April school holidays. He did a wonderful job caring for our dog, taking him on two walks each day and sending us regular photos and videos to show us how he was doing. He even taught the dog a couple of new tricks! He looked after our house really well (even mowed the lawn for us) and we were able to have a relaxing time away knowing everything was in safe hands. We wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Karl to others.
This was unfortunately a bit of a disappointment. Despite me providing a (typed) set of instructions for the pets and house, there were a number of issues.
Key House issues:
-window in dining room broken on day 1
-front door left with deadlock not engaged when departed
-dryer left on for 2 plus hours between leaving on the last day and us returning

Started as a pet sit but Karl needed to stay as another house sit fell through. That was fine. Got lots of pictures of happy pets and he walked our dog too which we appreciated. Came home to a very tidy house with sheets washed which was unexpected but appreciated after a long drive home!
Karl was a fantastic sitter - totally recommend him. My cats were really happy when I got home and the house was immaculate. Communication was really good too - and he checked in to ascertain what level of communication I was comfortable with!
There is nothing more secure than having people at home while you're away. Get a house sitter.
