Sumner Canterbury

Hi, we’re looking for a couple to look after our two springer spaniels (6yo and 3yo) and property while we are away for six weeks.

Ideally, we’re looking for either a retired couple or a couple where one person works from home. Both dogs are well behaved and very sweet, but the older one is a rescue with separation anxiety who can panic a bit after a few hours if no human is around. Both dogs are crate trained.

Our house has two bedrooms, one bath, and a spacious kitchen/dining/living area with lovely views over the ocean and of the Kaikoura mountain range. Fully-insulated with a ducted heat pump to keep things cozy in the winter. We also have a home gym in the garage and a sauna. Our house is a 15-minute walk or short drive to the centre of Sumner village where there is a grocery store, restaurants and takeaways, library, chemist, post office, doctor's office, and bus stops. It's a 10-minute walk in the other direction to Taylor's Mistake beach for better surf. There are beautiful mountain biking and hiking trails right from our door.

Our property is 1.2 acres and fully fenced. The dogs are pretty easy care as they get exercise every day running around our section, and enjoy trips down to the beach a couple times a week. But they are also happy chilling indoors or in the small fenced backyard attached to the house on wet weather days. Gardens should not require much care given the time of year but possibly one mowing of the lawn and leaf cleanup to keep things tidy (battery-operated mower and leaf blower provided).

We require police clearance and references from previous housesitting. We have flat driveway space and an outdoor power outlet should you need to park a caravan/motorhome or have an EV. Non-smokers only.
