My name is Gaik.
I am a 59-year-old Malaysian Chinese woman, returning NZ resident visa holder. I am mature, honest, respectful, reliable, responsible, hard-working, friendly, clean, neat and tidy. Highly organised. I am generally a quiet, homely person, who enjoys reading, going for walks, runs and hikes, exploring the outdoors. Non-smoker and non-drinker. I grew up with dogs and cats in our family home.
I am usually based in Singapore and have just reached a turning point in my career as an in-house Legal Counsel. In 2022, I lived for 4.5 months in Auckland, working remotely for my Singapore employer during this time, and thereafter did a 4-week road trip visiting various places on the North Island during the final month of my stay. In 2023, during the 25-week period from 1/8/23 to 23/1/24, I successfully completed 7 house-and-pet sits, ranging in duration from 5 days to 5 weeks in various locations in Auckland and Waikato regions. I very much enjoyed looking after different homes and breeds and personalities of pet dogs and cats and quickly grew deep affections for my pet wards.
I returned to NZ on 26/7/24 and stayed till 14/11/2024. During this period of my stay in NZ in 2024, I had the privilege of undertaking five house-and-pet sits in different parts of the North Island.
I am experienced and very much enjoy looking after a home. Ever since 1995, I have always managed and maintained our own family home (first in Germany, then in Cambridge, England, and since 2004 in Singapore). My husband teaches and researches at a local university in Singapore and our son works in Germany. My husband joined me during two of the five sits of my stay in NZ in 2024. He loves animals and gardening and really enjoyed the experience. He is a great addition to any house-and-pet sit.
For 2025, I have no clarity as yet when I will be back in NZ.

Gaik was a wonderful lady - our dog immediately loved her and really missed her when she left! He was so happy and contented when we got home. Gaik walked him every day and obviously cared for him very well. We got lots of updates and pictures. The house was so beautifully clean and tidy when we got home, it really was such a wonderful experience and we would love to have Gaik back in a heartbeat!
Gaik was a fabulous housesitter. My cat was very lucky to have her company while I was away - she didn't even miss me. Gaik left the house spotless. You're welcome back to housesit anytime, Gaik.
