We are a Spiwi family—Diego (Spanish), Aimee (Kiwi), and Leo (a delightful mix)—known for being quiet, clean, tidy, and responsible. We have extensive experience looking after our own and others' houses, pets, animals, and gardens. Aimee's expertise spans a wide range of animals including dogs, cats, horses, sheep, and cattle, while Diego specialises in lawn care, gardens, and general house maintenance.
Both of us have robust academic backgrounds. Aimee holds a Master of Science in Botany, currently working at the University of Otago and preparing her proposal to start her PhD in early 2025. Diego has a BSc in Biology from Spain and Norway, along with Master's degrees in Ecology and Secondary School Education. Recently, our careers have led us to roles at various botanical, ecological, and environmental institutes, departments, and consultancies, as well as in secondary education. Diego works remotely as a Science teacher for a prestigious international online secondary school.
We own a home in Dunedin, so house-sitting for us is a way to make friends in different parts of New Zealand with house owners, providing our son with diverse experiences, and caring for houses and animals while spending quality family time exploring new locations. Since falling in love with house-sitting in 2015, it has become a significant part of our lives, especially now that we can work remotely for extended periods. A good internet connection is vital for us, but rest assured, this means we will mostly be at your property, ensuring everything is well-maintained—from the house and gardens to the animals.
We are comfortable in all types of environments and cherish the opportunity to keep animals fit, fed, and healthy and maintain a clean house. Having already house-sat across New Zealand, we come with excellent references which can be viewed on our profile. We are always available for a chat over the phone to discuss more about us and answer any questions you might have.
Diego and Aimee looked after our home and fur babies while we were overseas recently. It was the first time we had used kiwi house sitters but as soon as we met them I was completely at ease. They are warm and friendly and great with animals. The house was left lovely and clean. I wouldn't hesitate to have them back, thank you Diego and Aimee!!
Perfect experience, house left immaculate, pets happy and even a couple of treats left for us. Communicated well in the lead up. Came a day early to get a feel of what to do with animals etc, and enjoyed a beer with us. Thanks so much, hope you enjoyed your time in the country!
An absolute pleasure to host Amiee, Diego and Leo. An interactive positive family, excellent communication throughout I would gladly have them house sit for our horses, cats, dogs and chickens. Thank you for stacking up extra firewood for our return home too. 5 stars
We had Amie, Diego and Leo in to look after our house, cats and chickens and they did a fantastic job. The garden looked great, the house clean and tidy and the pets were happy when we arrived home. Would highly recommend and would happily have them back again
We struck gold when we accepted these guys to look after our house and pets recently. There was great communication prior to their arrival and once they arrived, were so friendly and easy to get on with. Young Leo was a little darling who we fell in love with. A gorgeous family who we will see again, for sure.
Upon our return we found the gardens growing well thanks to the regular watering by Aimee and Diego. Very happy and healthy animals too, so we couldn't have been more chuffed.

Aimee and Diego sat for us during summer. Their communication was superb. They were able to come and meet with us prior to the sit starting and it was fantastic to know we were leaving our house and pets in their care. They left the house tidy and cared for our pets. Would recommend to anyone looking for trustworthy and caring sitters.
We had never used Kiwi House Sitters before having Aimee and Diego come to stay. We were thrilled with all they did and were able to enjoy three weeks away without any worries about the welfare of our animals or the security of our house. We cannot recommend Aimee & Diego highly enough. They sat for us for two weeks at Christmas and again this Easter on our lifestyle block. All we asked was the animals and chooks fed, eggs collected and delivered, dog and cats petted and loved. They went far and beyond of what was asked, doing many chores and on return both times the house was immaculate. They are trustworthy, reliable and caring. Aimee & Diego looked after our 10 acre block and house for about 10 days in Feb.
They cared for our 2 dogs, 5 goats, 5 sheep, 2 cows and our chooks. The house was nice and clean on our return home and everything in order. I would highly recommend Aimee & Diego to anyone else looking for someone to care for their house & animals while they're on holiday.
There is nothing more secure than having people at home while you're away. Get a house sitter.
