Our house is half way between Hamilton and Raglan, surrounded by native bush with a long driveway. It is completely off grid- solar for electricity, cooking and hot water with gas, rain water and wood burner for heating. Having your own car is necessary as we are off the beaten track.
Internet and landline are available, but no cell coverage.
We have kunekune pigs (all very friendly) and chickens to feed and a free ranged goat that lives around the house and cares for herself. A certain amount of fitness is necessary as we live on a hill and feeding the animals requires a lot of walking.
If you are looking for a quiet, place or thinking about living off grid, this is perfect for you.
It was incredible relaxing housesit at Irene and Damiens. Spacious creative house in the bush, birds coming to the windows. Each animal has its own character, though Puppy requires some patience. Garden was easy to maintain if you like some walking. Many nice places to visit in the area. Peaceful place to unwind or work, do your projects, stretch and get inspired by their off grid life
Had a lovely relaxing housesit at Irene and Damiens. Their home is off the grid and in the bush, but only a 15 min drive to Raglan. Very peaceful and quiet, I shared the space with pigs, chickens and a goat. Some gardens to potter around in, but the weather wasn't the best while there to do a lot. Really enjoyed the experience, and would recommend if you want to getaway from the world for a while.
