We need a house sitter

Auckland - Manukau

Kristi

Our home is located in a quiet, peaceful area of Beachlands, Auckland. The sitter would have use of our guest bedroom, plus the rest of the house except the family bedrooms. We are primarily looking for a single person/couple, but would also consider families. Our house is a short walk to cliff-top walks, Omana Regional Park and a couple of local beaches. It's about 5km drive to Maraetai beach. Any housesits between March-November the dog can be walked on the beach anytime.

We have one dog, Beau, who is a border collie/golden retriever cross. He loves daily walks and lots of snuggles. We are usually home all day so he likes to have someone around as much as possible, but is crate-trained for sleeping at night and if you have to go out during the day. He can only be left for up to 6 hours though, so if you need to be gone more than that regularly then it probably wouldn't be a good fit. He is really good in the car if you want to take an outing with him - we would just ask that you keep in on a lead because he can get distracted with a fun smell and run off. For longer term sits he can very occasionally be left outside if you need to be gone for more than 6 hours, but we would just ask that you discuss this with us beforehand because he tends to dig and we don't want him barking and disrupting the neighbors if left too often. Beau is one year old, but is actually a very chilled out dog. He's happy if he's with you! His bad habit is that he is still very much learning recall - if he sees another playmate (aka another dog) or gets a sniff he may run off and totally ignore you.

We are very tidy people so would ask that you keep our home clean while we are away please. If it rains or there's a heavy dew then Beau will need to be wiped off before he comes in and we don't wear shoes in our home. For this long housesit we will need you to mow the lawn as needed - it probably won’t be much yardwork being winter. We have lovely neighbors if you need anything and family in town as well if you have a problem. We have housesat in NZ, the US and the UK but this is our first time having a housesitter in our own home. We are a little nervous, but hope to find someone lovely that could housesit for us over the coming years as we travel extensively!

If you aren't from our area, there is quite a lot to access from Beachlands. There is a ferry from Beachlands to the city to access everything Auckland has to offer! The Auckland Museum, Zoo, Aquarium, viaduct, sky tower, etc. With a car there are many fun day trips around. Duders Regional Park (15 minutes), Hunua Ranges and extensive hiking trails (30 minutes), west coast black sand beaches for boogie boarding (1 hour without traffic), Rangitoto (ferry ride from the city), Waiheke Island wineries (ferry ride from the city), Botanical gardens (20 minutes) and more!
