We need a house sitter

Wellington - South Wairarapa

Juergen & Tobias

Hi there,

we are a couple (2 males) from Germany and we have been living since 11 years in New Zealand and almost 8 years in Carterton. We have a small Lifestyle block with about 25 sheep, 2 geese, 7 chickens, a veggie garden and a Greenhouse. We are travelling a couple of times in a year and we used to have a lovely housesitter for the initial years, but (un)fortunately she has now a house on her own so she is not longer available. But dealing with Kiwi housesitters the last years, we've made really nice experiences and met lovely people who took great care of our home and our animals.

Our house is an Edwardian Villa from 1915, fully renovated and insulated, with a heatpump and wood burner. The house is outside Carterton with a beautiful view on the Tararua Ranges. You will have your own room and a privat bathroom, and for sure we are happy for you using our kitchen and living room as well.

Our animals are easy going, but for sure we want you to take great care for them. Especially in winter, when the grass is sparse, we need you to feed the sheep once a day with baelage or hay. Beside the daily feed, the sheep are pretty easy to satisfy, our geese are free ranged coming home from time to time to get their grains, but the chickens expect you to visit them daily to collect their delicious eggs, feed them and just clean their place because we want them live in a nice clean house. If it's hot, the plants in the garden would need some water but it won't be much in Mai/June. We also have an irrigation system so it won't be too much work even if it's warm. Lawn mowing will be necessary as well. I guess once or max. twice. Everything is really easy to handle and if you keep doing things daily, you won't struggle at all. We are located outside Cartertons in the direction of Mount Holdsworth. The area is awesome with a lot of extraordinary places. You can also explore the whole area with a bike (in the garage). Great neighbours and friends living around. If you are interested, please send us an email and we'll get back to as soon as possible!

Would be lovely to meet you and if it's not possible to meet you in person before, we can do a video call via teams, whatsApp or facetime as well.

Please get in touch when you think you are the right person for this!

Contact us for a link to our facebook page and you'll get an idea about our home and animals.
We are looking forward to hearing from you!

Best,
Juergen & Tobi

Such an amazing housesit! Juergen and Tobi welcomed me with such warmth. They are truly wonderful people who made sure I had everything I needed. We shared great conversations over delicious meals! Their lovely home is set on a beautiful and well-kept farm, where the animals (especially the lambs and little gosling) were a joy to care for :) I’ve never felt more at home in New Zealand, and would gladly come back any time!

ANN (Sep 2024 - 2 weeks 3 nights)
Beautiful home with lovely rural views. Comprehensive notes provided by Juergen & Tobias on animals and house ensured things ran smoothly. Despite being overseas, communication was encouraged and any queries answered promptly. A privilege to care for newborn lambs and six cute, fluffy yellow goslings. Chooks are productive layers and farm fresh eggs well-received. Highly recommend and would welcome the opportunity to return. Thanks J&T for an awesome house sit.

DIANE (Sep 2022 - 1 month 1 week)
I thoroughly enjoyed housesitting for Juergen and Toby. I arrived a day prior to meet them in person and learned about how to look after the animals who are adorable and easy to take care of. Juergen and Toby made me feel at home right away and we had interesting chats over a great meal. They checked on things with me regularly and answered my questions tirelessly. The house is easy to live in with great characters and views around. It was such a treat to eat straight from the garden and to ... MORE

Awesome, Awesome sit. We have been welcomed to this housesit like we would be friends for a long time. This was our first housesit with no dog and cat instead geese and chicken and special cows. We learned a lot about brooding geese (9 eggs) and Angus cows and a very well organized lifestyle block settled in beautiful peaceful nature. We are very impressed how every detail was done functional and very clean. They have the most thoughtful chicken house and garden we ever come across. We felt ... MORE
